![]() Hopefully once Griftlands is fully released and a wiki is made of it, this thread will provide some help to those wiki editors as well, though just looking at the code would probably be more. I certainly have!īefore you make any sort of decision, however, I'd highly recommend learning more about Griftlands and perhaps checking out some of the reviews over at Steam. Of course, just because Rooks story is finished, that doesnt mean new events wont be added in the future, so I intend to update this whenever needed. When it comes to its quality, I'm pleased to say that Griftlands was pretty good when it first launched back in 2019, and it has only gotten better ever since! So if you're a fan of roguelite deck-builders like Slay the Spire or Monster Train, you'll probably find Griftlands to be right up your alley as well. The full version of Griftlands brings with it three unique characters with their own campaigns and mechanics, the ability to both converse and battle against other characters with unique decks for each approach, and as you might expect given its roguelite status, plenty of random nonsense that can either help you out in the campaign or simply into an early grave.Īs for what exactly all of that aforementioned nonsense looks like in actual gameplay, that you can find out through the most recent trailer. Every decision is important, be it the jobs you take, the friends you make, or the cards you collect. Suffice to say, I would have a hard time believing that Tencent represents the worlds most populous country. It has taken two years and quite a few updates, but Klei Entertinament's deck-building roguelite Griftlands has now finally been unleashed from Early Access. Griftlands is a deck-building roguelite where you negotiate, fight, steal or otherwise persuade others to get your way. They certainly did manage to get themselves on the map before, but just because they were successful at some point doesn't mean it will last forever.Īlso, disliking Tencent isn't xenophobia, and initially I had a big paragraph here to explain why that isn't the case but that would be off topic. If this is an issue of definitions and I'm wrong, then fantastic, they were successful. The reason this is relevant to the thread is that I don't expect them to continue previous trends and focus on things that make them money- and DLC for this game isn't it. That may or may not be the case in practice, but at least it is a notable declaration of intent one way or another. If they were already doing well enough prior to the acquisition, though, they wouldn't have needed to lose their majority stake to *anyone* and this, in my mind, was a turning point from being an indie studio to becoming some contractor for a big company. ![]() I wouldn't really consider Valve to be much of a games developer these days in games industry terms, although the games they did make were mostly very good. My measure of success was based on how much money their games were making commercially, yes. ![]() So quit your hating on the mf'in hand that feeds. I complain about game-as-service too, but it's just good business for keeping the lights on and the ceiling fan turning. But some games just make less (a lot less) by virtue of its appeal and player-base while carrying the same financial risk. Not to mention gamers being a fickle bunch. Getting an investment for your company based on its success isn't success, what is? Let's get something straight now, making new games and banking on its success with nothing but talent, reputation, and a prayer is still hugely risky. By your logic Valve also isn't a successful game company when they stopped making games and started making money. Make of that what you will? That's some barely-veiled xenophobia there buddy. Make of that what you will, but that isn't something I would attribute to a successful game company. Klei would remain in full control of its products, but the Tencent acquisition would help them to reach into the gaming market in China."
